Murderbot Live-Action Series Update

Some initial shots of Murderbot from Apple TV’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Martha Welle’s The Murderbot Diaries series.

I’m cautiously looking forward to this one!

Whoever is playing them better be dead on for deadpan delivery.

I’ve not read the books, however I keep hearing a lot of good things so I definitely feel I need to check them out.

Yeah, it’s Alexander Skarsgaard and I’m not really sure how I feel about that, to be honest. I’ve always imagined Murderbot as having a vaguely feminine persona, or at least a non-binary one. I’m surprised that they chose someone so decidedly masculine-presenting for the role.

Books are excellent.

But yeah, valid if you try the show first/only.

This exactly. Now I’m kinda doing the suspicious Fry look wondering if they’ll even bother with keeping they/them. Guess we’ll see. Hopefully Martha has some control of things.

First actor that came to mind right now was Gwendoline Christie. While not nonbinary, she’s done androgynous appearances before. (Though she had a photoshoot in Vogue or something in a dress and fuck she’s hot in that. [Spike Spiegel meme, “I like a woman that can kick my ass.”].)

She would be a good choice. Honestly, I thought she would have been a good choice for Ainsley Lowbeer in The Peripheral.

My first thought was Cailee Spaeny, as she has played enby characters before (in Devs) and is also fresh off of the Alien: Romulus space sci-fi train so has good chops for acting in a sci-fi setting. And I want to say that when she first came on the scene, she identified as they/them on IMDB and other places, but I could be wrong.

However, she’s a small person, so maybe doesn’t fit the physical minimum specifications for Murderbot.
