The Pebble smartwatches are making a return

Yesterday it was announced that the Pebble smartwatches are possibly making a return:

This was in part made possible by Google open-sourcing the Pebble OS code…which interestingly just happened after some contacts there were asked for it.

A Pebble was my first smartwatch and I absolutely adored it. I was pretty sad when they had to close down and their assets were bought by Fitbit (which then were bought by Google), seemingly killing the project.

Will you get one if they become available?

I’m not one for wearing watches of any type anymore (except for formal or swanky functions), but this is the only one that I would consider getting if I were to somehow return to my watch-wearing days. I’ll be interested to see who they get to produce the hardware and how long they can remain independent without getting gobbled up by one of the big conglomerates again.

I’m soooo hyped for this, I allway thought that combining e ink with a smart watch was an amazing Idea, but when I heard about it, the pebble days were already over, sadly.
It’s amazing to see that comeback. I also hope that they will be compatible with Gadgetbridge or have any other way to read out the data in an open way, that’s the thing that bothers me about the most smart watches, that I need a vendor specific, often chinese app to use it. But I have high hopes since it’s open source now.
