Another culture question on here. How does this site feel about necroing, (posting on topics that haven’t been active in a while,) threads? I was writing a commonet for one and the site said that the last comment was 10 months ago.
The board doesn’t seem too active, so I suppose it comes down to a preference of me reviving old topics, or making a bunch of new ones.
Yep, what @revengeday said. The pace here is a lot slower and since it’s not federated or necessarily time-dependent for “engagement”, if you see something that trips yer trigger and you want to comment on it, feel free! In my mind, this site is more for long-form, long-term conversation away from the hustle & bustle of “social media”. I think of it more like a library of sorts, to be honest.
I just wouldn’t necessarily expect a fast response.
I never got why that was supposed to be a bad thing! Like say with support forums: if people are still having the same problem years later, isn’t it good to know?
True, though I guess it makes more sense with a random forum than a support forum. The support forums that enforced that probably are all on discord now. >_>
I think this whole culture was brought about that never understood the definition of “the long tail” that Amazon helped coin. Necroing makes sense if the OP is some sort of time-sensitive question or idea I guess, but I think in the context of most discussion boards - especially something like a private Discourse board such as this - it doesn’t really apply IMO.
Sometimes it’s good to go back and see how things have changed over time, and also to document said fact in an effort to keep the topic as current as it can be.
