Discord is pondering to the orb

a.k.a. Discord announced a “in-app” currency that people can earn with finishing quests (watching ads, doing stuff in games, etc.), to buy shop stuff and Nitro credits.

Discord feels like it now has more monetarily features rather than…new actual features.

Well, it was only a matter of time until an app designed for gamers and to promote the gaming industry became completely gamified itself with microtransactions out the ying-yang.

I wonder how long it will be before they start charging for blocks of messages or individual messages (or giving you “orbs” for excessive posting).

Feh…

I would chuckle at this if I didn’t firmly believe that everyone in charge of Discord has already thought out that entire plan in full. Ugh.

To be honest, Discord is actually kind of backtracking here?

Because they stopped the “aggressive” cozying up to gamers with COVID, because they basically saturated that userbase by then, and turned it into more of a community-focused platform.

So, I’m somewhat suprised they basically turn the platform into a social network x mobile game (currency) experience.
