Lagomorph Daguerreotypes

Post by Buny »

Hay hay.

Figured I should share some of my photos here. Mostly nature, but occasionally other stuff.

I take photos of two different devices:
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro
    • Pixel Photo App
  • Canon EOS 2000D (aka Rebel T7 or Kiss X90)
    • Canon EF-S 18-55 mm F/4-5.6 IS STM (open box c.2017)
    • Canon Ef 70 210mm F/4 (used. c.1987)

I bought it off of Goodwill without really looking into it. Being $25 with shipping was the main attraction. If I'm right as to what lens it is, it does not have a stabilizer. I was hoping to use the telephoto on the go, but well see how clear things are.

My next camera purchases will be a wireless remote and a monopold.

Here's a photo from my phone.

So, the lens did indeed come in the mail today. It weighs about twice as much as my other lens and camera together. I also see why it wasn't heavily bid on. There was a dent that was photographed, that looked cosmetic to me. Well, I got it and the outer telescoping bit doesn't work well. Very difficult to it it to do anything and the numbers don't move right. The inner telescoping bit slides a bit too well, I have to hold it if its at an angle so it doesn't slide. And the focus seems damaged too. It has a grindy-clicky feel to it, and the focus box usually turns red. I'm not sure if that's damage, or just how a 40 year old autofocus system feels. I kinda feel like that some days. It also seems to focus dead on better if I put the box about a third down from the middle of the screen. And it's more likely to focus closer to 70mm than 210mm, (the length of the inner barrel).

All that said, I'm enjoying working with it. The issues with focusing means it has to be mounted, but since it doesn't have an image stabilizer, it needs to be anyway. Its great for scenery though. I took it out to take photos of the swollen river and it takes really nice photos. I got the zoom dial in and put it in manual to reuse the range.

Even if it does turn out to be a bust, it cam with a UV lens that fits my 55 too. Got some of my money out of that.

I also experimented a bit with Darktable. Fiddling with knobs and whatnot. Though I did the crop in GIMP.

This one I took with my 55 when getting back in the car. I think that's the best photo of the moon I've ever taken.
